Google has shown an updated interface for media applications in Android Auto

Google has announced updates for media applications in Android Auto. It was announced during the Google I/O 2025 conference.
Here's What We Know
The interface of media applications in Android Auto has remained almost unchanged for several years: all applications had a similar structure, which made it easier to use while driving and reduced driver distraction. However, this uniformity has sometimes limited the ability of apps to adapt to their unique functions and needs.
Now Google has introduced two important innovations. The first is a revamped view in apps with a new "SectionedItemTemplate" template that allows you to divide content into sections. For example, above the album list, you can see a separate block with "Recent Searches".

The second change concerns the MediaPlaybackTemplate screen. Developers will be given more freedom in the placement of controls: in the demo, the playback buttons have been moved to the lower right corner and their order has been changed. The interface remains clear but looks fresher.
In addition, Google is introducing the Car App Library, a set of tools for creating more complete and convenient media applications. This will allow developers to add more features to car versions, which are currently often inferior to their mobile counterparts.
So far, all these features are in beta, and there is no exact date for the release of updates to the apps. Google has already announced that Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music will be the first to use the new interface in Android Auto.
