Almost two decades after the release of the original The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the remastered version of the game has become a real hit in the US, outselling even the legendary original title. According to Circana analyst Matt Piscatelli, Oblivion Remastered is the third best-selling game of 2025, and in the first week it sold more copies than the original did in 15 months.

Here's What We Know

Oblivion Remastered, which became available for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC on 22 April 2025, surprised even the biggest optimists. Despite the fact that there were many rumours about the release, Bethesda chose a spectacular "showdown", releasing the game immediately after the announcement. This strategy impressed the market: the game instantly became a leader in sales on all platforms.

Analyst Matt Piscatella confirmed that Oblivion Remastered took the first place among all releases of the month, and at the end of the year, it is second only to Monster Hunter Wilds and Assassin's Creed Shadows. What is even more surprising is that in the first days of sales, the remaster outsold the original Oblivion, which was released in 2006, in fifteen months.

What was the reason for this success? Firstly, Bethesda is now a world-famous studio, but it was Oblivion that once made it popular. Secondly, nostalgia: millions of players who once enjoyed the original were very interested in the remaster. And finally, the "shadowdrop" effect: an unexpected release without a protracted advertising campaign caused a wave of excitement against the background of other projects that are announced years before the release.
